F5 Savannah

An F5 Savannah cat is a domestic cat, that is five generations removed from its wild ancestor, the African serval.
The F5 is made by putting an f4 female x sbt male.
The f5 is the first generation that the males can be fertile. All or most savannah males are sterol from the f1-f4 generation. Even with the f5 male, around 50% or more are NOT fertile. Which is why most breeders use f6 or f7 males for breeding.

1. **Appearance:** F5 Savannah cats typically retain some of the wild serval-like characteristics in their appearance, although they are more domesticated compared to earlier generations. They have spotted coats with various coloration, large ears, and long legs. Their size is usually similar to that of a standard domestic cat.

2. **Size:** These cats are generally medium-sized, with males weighing between 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 to 6.8 kg) and females being slightly smaller.

3. **Temperament:** F5 Savannah cats tend to have active and playful personalities. They are intelligent and curious, often requiring mental and physical stimulation to keep them engaged. Socialization and interaction with their owners are essential for their well-being.

4. **Energy:** They are energetic cats that enjoy playtime and exercise. Providing them with toys, climbing structures, and interactive activities is important to prevent boredom.

5. **Care:** Their care requirements are similar to those of other domestic cats, including regular grooming, vaccinations, and a balanced diet. Keep in mind that they may have specific dietary needs due to their active nature.

6. **Legal Considerations:** It’s essential to check local regulations before getting an F5 Savannah cat, as some places may have restrictions or bans on owning exotic breeds like Savannah cats.

F5 Savannah cat price

As you move down the generations from F1 to F5 and beyond, Savannah cats become more domesticated and their behavior becomes increasingly similar to that of traditional house cats. F5 Savannah cats are often chosen by people who desire an exotic-looking cat with some wild characteristics but still want a pet that is more manageable and adaptable to a home environment compared to earlier generations. However, they can still be more active and demanding than your average domestic cat, so potential owners should be prepared for their unique needs and personalities.f5 savannah cat

F5 Savannah is the second generation that can be SBT.  SBT means Stud Book Tradition, which means there are at least 4 generations of pure Savannah to Savannah breedings with no outcrossing.  Outcrossing is taking another breed of cat and breeding it to a Savannah. Examples of some are bengals, Egyptian mau , oriental shorthair’s, and regular DSH.

You will noticed a massive difference in the overall look of the Savannah is different when other breeds are missed in. There is also a difference in the quality of the breeding cats used. Often at the SBT level (f4-f7) when quality breeding cats are NOT used they end up looking like glorified tabby cats.
